Sandwaves
In collaboration with Studio Precht (Austria) & Arthur Mamou-Mani (London)
Within the heritage district of Al Bujairi, Sandwaves was sensitively integrated within the natural environment.
The largest sand-printed installation to date, Sandwaves comprised 56 3D-printed elements that formed a continuous ribbon for people to pass through, relax or socialise.
The perforation and the shape of the installation created different shades of transparency along the pavilion. As visitors passed through, the sculpture led them through narrow alleys and wide plazas, surrounding them in an immersive installation.
Using local materials combined with cutting edge technology, the structure was ecologically friendly and responded to a native culture and building traditions.
Several prototypes were tested to arrive at the final module, with local Saudi industry involved in the exploration towards production.
